Casole d'ElsaCasole d’Elsa rises like a sudden jolt of the earth, on a hill overlooking the south-west of Val d'Elsa, steeped in art and rural life which is still waving the orange flag granted by the Touring, a badge for those who have good environment, good things and the culture of hospitality. The people of Casole, while evolving and opening up new, has been closely linked to the countryside, a society that, as in the rest of the Val d'Elsa, expressed strong values of commitment. Casole but has something more to give, is the genuine emotion of the union between man and nature. It offers as well many art-works such as ‘La Collegiata’, where you can find remains of a fresco of the ‘Last Judgement theme’ by a painter from the Duccio school and the cenotaph of Porrina Messer, fourteenth-century masterpiece of Marco Romano. La ‘Collegiata’ is also adorned by a remarkable Della Robbia’s work. Of particular interest is the ‘Canonica’ and the curious tourist will be allowed to peek in the courtyards of palaces for discovering the ancient splendor, perhaps in the form of carved well.
